AMD confirms CPU vulnerability and issues BIOS update warning
AMD has confirmed that its Ryzen CPUs are affected by a vulnerability and stated that it is still working on fixes with its partners. The issue came to light after a Google hacker discovered mentions of a fix for the problem in a new ASUS BIOS update for its motherboards.
In other words, the vulnerability was exposed to the public even before AMD officially announced its existence. In a statement to The Register, the company expressed concerns about potential fake updates that could mislead its customers:
“AMD has provided mitigations and is actively working with its partners and customers to deploy these mitigations. AMD recommends customers continue following standard industry security practices and work only with trusted vendors when installing new code on their systems. AMD plans to issue a security bulletin soon with additional guidance and mitigation options.”
