During the brief suspension of TikTok in the United States on Sunday (19), Meta introduced a new video editing app called Edits. According to Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, the platform aims to assist creators with a range of advanced tools for preparing content.

The platform was announced amidst the TikTok ban, which lasted several hours and also impacted other ByteDance apps, such as the video editing tool CapCut.

The idea is for Edits to serve as a competitor to CapCut, which simplifies video editing for TikTok. However, its primary focus will be on developing Instagram Reels.

According to Mosseri, Edits is a “comprehensive suite for creators” and offers unique features, such as a tab designed to provide inspiration during content creation and a camera that supports filming in 1080p or 2K at up to 60 frames per second and in HDR.

There will also be a tab for accessing metrics of published Instagram Reels. Additionally, videos can be exported without watermarks, allowing the edits to be used beyond Meta’s social platform.

Like CapCut, the app will also offer a timeline for aligning images, audio, and effects during editing. However, a detailed breakdown of all available tools has not yet been provided.
