How It Works: Infrared Subpixels Under the Screen
The patent describes an innovative approach involving the placement of infrared light emitters within the pixels beneath the display glass. This is made possible by dedicating a small portion of each pixel to emit invisible infrared light. Unlike traditional subpixels that produce red, green, and blue light, these new displays will include an additional component specifically for infrared projection.
This projected light will scan the user’s face, enabling ultra-precise facial recognition. Importantly, Apple’s design ensures that these infrared subpixels will not compromise the overall display quality. By aligning subpixels of the same color, the integration of biometric technology into the screen remains invisible to the naked eye.
